New Project

I am going to make a quilt! I never thought I'd be able to do something like that. However, I've figured it out in my mind how I can do it simply, so maybe it will work :) See, I am fixing my oldest daughter's room up. I had something in particular in mind, but of course I can't find anything that doesn't have characters on it like Disney Princess or that Hannah Montana crud.

So, I'll just have to make something. I have always loved the Sunbonnet Sue pattern, like this:

This type of quilt isn't that hard. Really all you have to do is get the pattern and cut out the pieces, iron them on the fabric, stitch a decorative stitch around the edges and then sew the blocks together. I am terrible at measuring, so that's where my dh comes in- he is awesome at measuring precisely :) I am going to do 9 blocks that are 8x12'', like a piece of paper. I wanted to do it in shades of yellow and white and some pastels, but I cannot find the fabric I want, so I chose yellow, blue, white and green florals and ginghams. I am planning to use a twin sheet for the back and use yarn to 'quilt' it- poke the yarn through the whole thing and tie it. Hopefully I can remember to take pictures of the process so you can see. Maybe it will work!

I had a quilt like that when I was little! I bet my mom still has it. Mine was yellow. Adorable!

I just made a baby quilt like that (it is on my blog). I am in the process of quilting it for my granddaughter who is due to arrive mid September. I did not iron on though... I hand appliqued and di not do the button hole stitching around the edges as they were turned. It was a fun quilt to make.

I can piece a quilt all day long, and I can quilt all day long, but basting gets me. Maybe that is why I have never completed a quilt! The Sunbonnet Sue quilt is beautiful. Applique scares me a little, probably because I have never tried it!:) Bren at www.piecesfromme.blogspot.com just finished up a SBS quilt. It turned out wonderfully.

I too had a quilt like that when I was young - I *loved* it!! I think mine is tucked away in a storage bin, now that I think about it. I'll have to get that out this pregnancy (this winter) and see if I can do any repairs. If not, maybe I'll try my hand at a smaller version.

Always was my favorite blankie...
Good luck~

Good luck to you. I'm still working on a quilt for my little girl. I started it before she was born and is now almost 2. :P Everything else just gets in the way. Yours sounds simpler and you're much more organized. Have fun! I love the pattern.

I had a quilt with that pattern when I was a little girl. It was blue and had paisly bonnets on the girls. It was the most comfortable quilt and I loved it dearly. It is long gone now I wish I had it back.
