Quilts, and er, quilts

***all images are clickable***

Well, I don't have a picture of the finished quilt yet- I will wait till it's on Leiah's bed and you can see the whole room. Still tying knots on it! But here it is ready to be 'sandwiched' together.

A close up of the Sues'.

Ok, I am also working on yet another quilt for my mom whose birthday is on the 13th. I am making a rag quilt, which is pretty simple, it's just cutting out all the squares. I am AWFUL at cutting straight edges!!! Help me please!! Somehow I've got to get all of the squares perfectly square and I am failing miserably. It may have to be a crazy quilt...
I can't decide which pattern I like best, so feel free to vote on which layout looks the best.

(I have to cut out more squares, I just laid it out with what I had to figure out how many more squares I needed)

Do you have a rotary cutter? That will work best, with a ruler for a very straight edge.

They look GREAT by the way!!

The Sunbonnet Sue quilt looks awesome, Jessica! I like the first pattern for your mom's quilt. I can't cut straight, either. I don't have enough room! Thankfully, the quilt shop sells pre-cut 5" squares. They are called charm squares. I LOVE them!

I just recently saw the pre-cut squares at our local Joann Fabrics. I was thinking about using these for my first easy quilt.

Also, I would second the rotary cutter. If you can get your hands on one of those plastic-y (what *are* they made of) boards to use the rotary cutter on, that is. I have a rotary cutter, but nothing to actually cut on. So it does me little good...

*love* the sues!!!

Meant to post a comment on this yesterday and ran out of time...but the quilt looks great! :) The little "Sue's" are too cute! I like the first quilt design, but they are both cute. I have a rotary cutter too, like everyone else is saying, and mine is from Walmart. If you do get one, be careful, because they ARE sharp! And I have cut my fingers too many times to count. I'm not really sure how people can cut their squares soo straight either. Maybe they have something like a paper cutter??? Not sure...

Good luck...they look great!

I do have a rotary cutter, it must must be a really cheap one because it barely cuts through the material no matter how hard I push down on it. Quilt is going slowly...
